Stripe Reintroduces Crypto Payments: USDC Now Supported on Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon

Stripe is making a big move. They’re rolling out support for USDC payments on the Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon blockchains.

In a recent post on X, Jeff Weinstein, the head of products at Stripe, announced that crypto is back on the platform. And it’s available in over 150 countries!

He said, “Okay, crypto on Stripe is officially back! You can accept stablecoins from more than 150 countries. Buyers pay in USDC, and you, as a business in the USA, receive USD. This works with checkout, elements, or payment intents, and soon subscriptions.”

That’s exciting news for many businesses! Stripe had previously supported Bitcoin payments until 2018. Back then, they stopped because Bitcoin wasn’t working well as a payment method.

Now, Stripe offers a feature called “Pay with Crypto.” This allows merchants to accept digital assets and settle in fiat without the hassle of converting or holding the crypto themselves.

As their website explains, “Pay with Crypto lets you accept stablecoin payments that settle as fiat in your Stripe balance. You can accept USDC payments on Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon without the complexity of holding or converting crypto to fiat. We charge 1.5% of the transaction amount.”

In April, Stripe’s co-founder and president, John Collison, mentioned that they would start USDC-based payments during the summer. It looks like they’re sticking to that plan!
