Spotify Wrapped 2024 Launches with AI-Powered Podcast and New Music Evolution Feature
Spotify Wrapped 2024 has just launched, and it comes with some exciting new features. This year, in addition to your usual personalized recap of favorite artists, songs, and podcasts, Spotify has introduced an AI-powered podcast created with Google’s NotebookLM.
One of the standout features is called “Your Music Evolution.” It shows how your musical tastes have changed over the past year. Pretty neat, right?
In the past, Spotify developed its Wrapped features internally. But this year, they’re collaborating with Google for the AI podcast. Using Google’s Gemini AI, you’ll get a customized audio summary of your listening habits in 2024. Think of it like a podcast just about your music preferences!
This addition comes after Google’s AI notetaking tool gained popularity in 2024. People loved using its Audio Overview feature to create fun conversations between two AI hosts. Originally meant for summarizing notes, users started feeding it all kinds of content, leading to some interesting and funny insights.
Spotify was inspired to partner with Google after seeing how much people enjoyed this AI technology.
When you play your Wrapped podcast from the Home screen on Spotify, the AI hosts will compliment your music taste and summarize your listening activity. You can even save the audio clip to your device or share it on social media.
This feature will be available for a limited time to both free and paid users in English across the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden.
While the AI podcast is sure to be a hit on social media, it feels like a natural progression from last year’s Wrapped, which included Spotify’s AI DJ feature. This year, instead of one AI speaker, you’ll have two narrating your musical history.
The AI DJ will also weave your Wrapped experience into its spoken commentary. It’s available in both English and Spanish.
Another new feature for Premium subscribers allows them to create AI playlists based on their Wrapped experience. You can simply prompt Spotify to play more artists like your top five Wrapped artists. It builds on the existing AI playlist feature launched in April.
However, Wrapped didn’t introduce as many new personalized data stories this year as in the past. In previous years, Spotify experimented with fun features like identifying your music personality or matching you with towns that share your musical tastes.
This year, the big new addition is “Your Music Evolution.” It tracks up to three distinct musical phases you experienced throughout the year. With events like Beyoncé’s country music debut and Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, Spotify has plenty to work with for tracking changes in users' interests.
This feature will also come with a personalized playlist available from the Wrapped feed in Home.
Another exciting addition to Wrapped in 2024 is audiobooks. Now available in several global markets, including the U.S., U.K., and Australia, Spotify’s audiobook catalog has doubled to over 300,000 titles. Wrapped will feature a new audiobooks editorial hub and provide a dedicated experience for authors and publishers to see how users engaged with their work this year.
Other aspects of Wrapped have also been updated. For example, your Top 5 Artists Story will now show your “Longest Listening Streak.” When you share music or podcasts, Spotify will let you know if what you’re listening to was in your top 100 songs, top 20 artists, or top 5 podcasts.
Spotify is also bringing back “Top Listeners,” showing your percentile ranking for favorite artists. This feature lets you brag to friends about how long you’ve been into a particular artist.
Artist video clips will return too. Thousands of artists, including Billie Eilish and Usher, will share messages with their top fans.
This year, Wrapped will also include Podcaster Clips, which are video messages from popular podcasters like Emma Chamberlain and Markiplier.
In celebration of Top Artist Taylor Swift, there will be Easter Eggs in the app that light up Spotify’s buttons with Era-themed animations. Fans can also access a Top Artist AR friendship bracelet on Snapchat, and Swift will receive a Global Top Artist badge in the app.
Spotify has also revealed its top lists for 2024, including:
