Instagram Tests Feature to Reset Content Recommendations for a Fresh Start

Instagram is testing a new feature that lets you reset your content recommendations. This means you can start fresh and retrain the app to understand what you really like on your Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab.

This feature is perfect for users who feel like their recommendations don’t match their current interests anymore. For example, if you used to love recipe videos but now find them annoying, this reset could help. You might see a lot of that content on your Reels and Explore pages, even if you're not interested anymore.

It’s similar to a feature TikTok introduced last year, which allowed users to reset their For You feeds. So, you’re not alone in wanting to refresh your experience!

When you reset your recommendations, Instagram will start personalizing your content again over time. It will learn from the posts and accounts you interact with. Plus, you’ll get the option to review who you’re following and unfollow accounts that don’t interest you anymore.

Adam Mosseri, Instagram's head, shared a video explaining that this feature isn’t meant for frequent use. It’s really for those times when you want a complete refresh.

“I want to be clear, this is a big thing to do,” Mosseri said. “It’s going to make your Instagram much less interesting at first. We’ll treat you as if we know nothing about your interests, and it’ll take time to learn those again. So, it’s not something I recommend doing all the time. But if you feel stuck and unhappy with your experience, this gives you a way out.”

This new option works alongside Instagram’s existing tools. You can still mark posts as “Interested” or “Not Interested” to guide your recommendations daily. Also, you can hide content with specific words or phrases using the “Hidden Words” feature.

While these tools help you curate content regularly, the reset option is for when you really want to start over.

Instagram says this new feature will be rolling out globally soon. Stay tuned!
