El Salvador's President Bukele Discusses Bitcoin Initiatives with Argentina's Vice President Villaruel

El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele recently met with Argentina's Vice President Victoria Villaruel to discuss Bitcoin (BTC/USD) policy.

A video shared by Villaruel on X featured the two leaders at a table. Villaruel warmly welcomed Bukele to Argentina. She expressed her interest in Bitcoin, saying, "I want to take this short opportunity to ask you about Bitcoin."

She highlighted that she finds Bitcoin particularly intriguing and wanted to learn more about El Salvador's Bitcoin bond project. In response, Bukele was eager to share details about the various Bitcoin initiatives his administration has implemented.

Later, Villaruel posted a photo from their meeting, revealing that they talked about Bitcoin implementation and the creation of the National Commission of Digital Assets. This commission is the regulatory authority overseeing digital assets in El Salvador.

This meeting is significant because both leaders share a pro-Bitcoin sentiment. El Salvador has led the way in Bitcoin adoption, becoming the first country to recognize Bitcoin as legal tender back in 2021. Since then, it has rolled out several measures to integrate Bitcoin into everyday life.

Last year, El Salvador passed important legislation to create a legal framework for a Bitcoin-backed bond, known as the "Volcano Bond." This bond aims to reduce the country’s sovereign debt and fund the development of the proposed "Bitcoin City."

On the other hand, Argentina's Libertarian president Javier Milei has praised Bitcoin's scarcity-driven growth model. He sees it as a way to return monetary power to the people. However, unlike El Salvador, Argentina hasn’t made much progress with Bitcoin during his presidency.

Bitcoin supporters hope that the recent meeting between Bukele and Villaruel could be a first step toward advancing Bitcoin initiatives in Argentina.

As of now, Bitcoin is trading at $61,022.74, down 0.65% in the last 24 hours, according to Benzinga Pro.
