Basejump Unveils AI-Driven Web3 Social Gaming Platform with Permanent Blockchain Storage

Basejump has launched its Web3 social gaming platform, featuring an AI-powered gaming substrate called Action. This platform allows players to create their own games.

The company recently secured a strategic investment from Community Labs. Scheduled to debut in early 2025, Basejump enables players to earn, explore, and share game assets. You can even create entire games.

Action, developed by the Basejump team, is an open, AI-driven tool. It lets users generate content without needing coding skills. This makes game creation accessible and interactive for everyone.

Action runs on AO, a distributed supercomputer. It uses Arweave’s permanent storage technology to ensure that user-created content, like game assets and worlds, is stored on the blockchain and remains accessible forever.

“Basejump is a discovery platform for the 3.2 billion people who use avatars in games and digital worlds,” said Matt Mason, CEO of Basejump. “Imagine a place where you can bring your game characters, items, and skins into an ever-expanding universe of worlds you can create and explore instantly. This dream is now a reality thanks to the AO supercomputer.”

Lex Johnson, the chief creative officer, added, “With Action's AI capabilities and AO's powerful infrastructure, users can bring unique, interoperable game worlds and assets to life. Thanks to Arweave, these creations will last permanently. The potential for new cultural and commercial experiences is incredible.”

Tate Berenbaum, CEO of Community Labs, expressed excitement about the partnership. “Basejump’s innovative approach to blending social gaming with AI-driven creation on AO's infrastructure aligns perfectly with our mission. We’re thrilled to support their vision of reshaping the future of gaming.”

Community Labs is positioned at the heart of the Arweave and AO ecosystem. They focus on building foundational tools and infrastructure to tackle key challenges for developers and users. Their mission is to drive innovation and create impactful solutions.

AO is designed to provide trustless and cooperative compute services without practical scalability limits. It combines the benefits of blockchain networks with the speed of traditional computing environments.

Key features of AO include support for an unlimited number of parallel processes and extensive computation capabilities. This allows developers to create scalable, efficient, and verifiable decentralized applications.

Previously known as Dazzle Ship, the company released an NFT collection about 18 months ago. The community that formed around metaverse-like spaces inspired the creation of Basejump, starting with interoperable game avatars, Mason explained in an interview.

Along with his co-founders, Brent Fitzgerald (CTO) and Lex Johnson (CCO), Mason began envisioning the next version of the internet. He hopes that Web3 technologies, like wallets, will function seamlessly in the background, allowing players to enjoy a magical experience. Their work started in November 2022, with a team of three founders and five additional members.

“Today, 3.2 billion people use game avatars worldwide,” he noted.

However, these avatars often struggle to move between games. Competitors like Ready Player Me have created their own versions of interoperable avatars for thousands of games. But Basejump has its unique approach and is open to potential collaboration with Ready Player Me.

“AO allows for parallel computing on-chain, which means you can run large calculations or processes in a single block. This setup can host a complex game character in one block,” Mason explained. “It’s easy to use this tech to create a registry of game worlds and assets, and to build things using AI as well. With AO, you can literally speak an asset or a world into existence. It’s like ChatGPT for games.”

The company is gearing up for alpha testing next week and aims to launch in early 2025. While there’s currently no NFT tied to the project, Mason mentioned that one might come in the future.

“The business is really going to take off in 2025,” he concluded.
