Bangkok Authorities Pursue Four Chinese Nationals in $2 Million Crypto Heist

Authorities in Bangkok are on the hunt for four Chinese nationals involved in a shocking robbery. These individuals forced a businessman to transfer a staggering $2 million in cryptocurrency.
According to a report from the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred at 2 AM on a Wednesday. The suspects, masked and armed with guns and knives, broke into the home of 35-year-old businessman Ke Jibao while he and his wife were asleep.
They tied up Ke, his wife, and a maid, binding their hands and feet. Then, they demanded that Ke call a relative in China to send them the cryptocurrency. After the transfer was completed, the intruders took away the servers that recorded the incident and escaped in the victim’s car.
Later that day, around 1:30 PM, the stolen vehicle was found abandoned near a power plant. It is now undergoing forensic investigation.
Ke expressed confusion about how the robbers knew about his relative in China. Police believe the robbery was well-planned. Interestingly, the suspects didn’t bring a vehicle, which allowed them to avoid showing IDs to security when they entered the housing estate.
In an update from Thai Newsroom, a Vietnamese man suspected of being part of the robbery was arrested on Friday. Authorities revealed that the intruders also stole 10 million baht, which is about $57,750, in cash along with the cryptocurrency.
Investigators are looking into whether this robbery was a form of payback due to debts or a result of a personal dispute. The case continues to unfold.
